Pop Up Hotels
9 01 2008
You’ve been there before, you called up a hotel only to be disappointed because it is booked to capacity. What if hotels could just build new spaces to meet demand?
Well that is exactly what Travelodge is doing with it’s prefab rooms. They are building a pop-up hotel in the West London district of Uxbridge.
The hotels can be built on a temporary basis to meet demand in certain locations such as for festivals and concerts. It takes about 12 weeks to build, but they can be removed just as quickly once demand is gone.
Here we have a great example of a business that is taking advantage of a trend and incorporating it into their long term strategy. The pop-up hotel concept is part of Travelodge’s strategy to become the largest hotel operator in London by the 2012 Olympics.
Just one question, how much will one of these cost? Can you charge extra because they are available in areas where amenities are scare? Or do you provide a discounted rate in big cities like London because they are quick fixes?
